Accardi-by-the-Sea is a small village in the Westlands by the coast of the Great Sea, near Borphee Harbor. Accardi's most famous geographic feature is the nearby Razor Gorge, a deadly chasm carved by a branch of the Borphee River. Because most enchanters prefer the quiet of a town such as Accardi over the hustle and bustle of a larger city, Accardi has become a center of the magic industry. The Accardi Guild of Enchanters is one of the most influential in the entire land, and has given rise to such famous magic-users as the Wizard of Frobozz and Belboz the Necromancer, and such celebrities as Meredith Sprague. (For those wishing to contact the Accardi-By-The-Sea chapter of the Enchanters Guild, which reopened recently, please send your letters to: Hall of the Guild of Enchanters Village of Accardi-by-the-Sea Land of Frobozz Brought to you by our friends at the Accardi-By-The-Sea Enchanters Guild [est. 683 GUE]) Ages of Magic: So far, there have been two. The first Age of Magic began far before the reign of Entharion the Wise, and ended in 966 GUE. The second began on 35 Frobuary™ 1067 GUE, and is extending into the present. With the closing of the first Age of Magic, all the various shadows of spells and enchanters, etc, have been destroyed. Therefore, we can assume that we have at least a good nine-hundred more years before we have to worry about closing this Age. C. Agrippa worked for the Frobozz Magic Construction Company, and was commissioned by Duncanthrax the Bellicose to construct a temple in the northern section of the Eastlands. Agrippa, however, opposed Duncanthrax's alchemical reasons for constructing what he believed to be a "sacreligious insult from someone with such a weak mind on the forces of alchemy." In response to this, Duncanthrax sent to him a gift of poisoned fruit, accompanied with an unknowing spy. The spy ate the fruit first, and died at the feet of C. Agrippa. Agrippa then responded to Duncanthrax with a scathing letter, and he quit the Frobozz Magic Construction Company shortly thereafter. Nobody knows what happened to him after that. Mumboz Agrippa was, at one point, a foreman for the Frobozz Magic Cave Company. Heavily involved with the hollowing of an ancient volcano in the Eastlands, his job was related to the safety factors involved in constructing caverns over very weak rock strata. He also authored the book "Construction of the Empire". Mumboz Agrippa's great-great-grandfather built the Temple of Agrippa, during the reign of King Duncanthrax the Bellicose. Aimfiz is a spell that transports it's caster to another location. Please see Appendix D for more information. Queen Alexis was, according to the Legend of Wishbringer, the wife of Anatinus, and Queen of Misty Island in ancient days. The legend tells that Queen Alexis' daughter, cursed by fate and prophecy, was born blind. To ease her heavy heart, Alexis kidnapped the peasant girl Morning-Star, and raised her as the Princess. When Morning-Star came of age, Alexis' awful envy caused her make six tough Love-Quests to the knights seeking to marry Morning-Star, and eventually to decree that her daughter "must remain unmarried and virgin all her days." This Edict caused Morning-Star's heart to harden into the magic stone Wishbringer. Amathrodonis was a terrible giant who terrorized Accardi-By-The-Sea for many centuries. He was finally vanquished by Belboz the Necromancer in 952 GUE, when the enchanter used showy pyrotechnical magic to destroy the giant. Donald Normal Amount was a veteran character actor who got his most popular role--that of Dimithio of Borphee on This Psyantist's Life--purely by accident. Donald N. Amount was actually supposed to be a guest on The Enchanter's Hour, when he was spotted and immediately cast by Psyantist executives. Dimithio of Borphee was not the first role Donald N. Amount played, and it certainly wasn't the last, though he did reprise it for a This Psyantist's Life reunion in 900 GUE. Donald N. Amount cites Psyantist for sparking his interest in the thaumaturgical arts, and he actually became a member of the Borphee Enchanters' Guild after the show went off the air. He always said that one of the best moments in his life was meeting the real-life Dimithio who, according to Donald N. Amount, "is just the nicest guy you can imagine. We slandered him for six years, and he couldn't seem to care less. Just one of the greatest guys ever!" The Amulet of Aggthora was a legendary jewel renowned for its powers of augury. In the year 957 the Amulet was in the possession of Belboz, and is known to have glowed when near his location. This property of the Amulet was crucial in the defeat of Jeearr. King Anatinus: According to the legend of Wishbringer, the platypus Anatinus was once the King of Misty Island, and husband to Queen Alexis. Anatinus is best-noted for his decree that anyone claiming the hand of his daughter must fulfill a Love-Quest of Alexis' choosing. This decreed led to the death of six young knights. It is also known that a King Anatinus, presumably a descendant of the original King, reigned on the island during the time of The Evil One. Princess Tasmania, the king's daughter, was twice rescued from dangers by a human postal worker. The most important event of the reign of this Anatinus was his generous award to the postal worker who saved his daughter. By bestowing the human with a wizard's hat, Anatinus helped him to bring about the downfall of The Evil One in the nearby village of Festeron. Antharia, the Island Province, is 959 square bloits of beautiful land right in the middle of the Great Sea. The weather in Antharia is picture-perfect, except for an occasional hurricane in late summer. Tourists to Antharia bring in a remarkable business. No trip is complete without a visit to the shipbuilding factories of South Anthar, the marble mines in the Peltoid Valley, the port of Marba, and the Bella Quease. Mid-spring in Antharia brings the Marble Pageant, followed in the summer by shark-wrestling in the Flathead Stadium. Antharia became a part of the Great Underground Empire in 665, when the forces of Duncanthrax vanquished the Antharian Armada at the famous battle of Fort Griffspotter. Up to that time the island-nation of Antharia was the world's premier sea power, and this victory gave Duncanthrax undisputed control of the Great Sea, and put the superb ship-building facilities of Antharia at his disposal. The conquest of Antharia also gave the kingdom access to Antharia's famed granola mines. Unfortunately, no one in Quendor liked granola. For many years now Antharia has been ruled by a council of four "Elders" - one from the Shipbuilding Guild, one from the Granola Miners Guild, one from the Marble Cutters Guild, and one from a popular waterfront pub called "Emu's". Spenseweed is the official flower of Antharia, and the island's motto is "Hieya wizka," which translates to "Hello sailor." The capital of Antharia is Anthar. Antharia Jack was born in the year 877 GUE, in the portside town of Marba, Antharia. He rose the ranks of acting entertaining sailors and tourists at Chuckle's Comedy Club, doing stand-up comedy and improv routines. A talent scout for the Enchanters' Broadcasting Group discovered Jack there and signed him to a one-year contract to the network. His first show was an hour-long variety program called The Antharia Jack Show, which aired every day between 1 and 2 PM. It was filmed live, as most shows were back then, and that became a problem on 15 Mumberbur 883 GUE. On that date, the former King of Quendor, Wurb Flathead, interrupted the filming of the hit comedy This Psyantist's Life on the stage above, and dropped through the ceiling onto an elephant that Jack just happened to be having on his show as a guest at the time. Wurb and the elephant, which many believe to be the former King's own pet, then crashed through the set's wall and fled. Jack decided then and there to get out of television forever. But he was still under the unbreakable contract, so he stuck to doing cameo roles in other EBG shows, most notably, four episodes at the end of the first season of This Psyantist's Life.
Syovar the Strong pursuasively recruited him to play the role of "Foots" in the smash hit series The Z-Team in 913 GUE and brought him back to a very appreciative television audience. Unfortunately, the show, while heralded by critics and worshiped by viewers, was cancelled after one-and-a-half seasons because of a personality conflict between Syovar the Strong and The Z-Team's executive producer, Billington "Willey" Zimbog. Following the show's cancellation, most of the actors took other jobs in other industries, but Antharia Jack returned to his first passion: Theatre. He successfully adapted The Tragedy of King MacFlat into a modern-day docu-drama, and performed this and other plays (including classics like Curse Day and Yoruk's Descent into Hell) until the year 929 GUE, when he got out of the acting business and bought and opened a casino in Port Foozle. In the beginning of 931 GUE, Jack won one of the Cubes of Foundation in a game of Double Fanucci. He was either very lucky, or very clever, and since he himself admits that he doesn't know how to play Double Fanucci, the former must have been true. Especially since the bettor did not dispute the exchange. He ended up losing the Cube of Foundation to a mysterious woman with a flat head during one of his bi-weekly "Ladies Night" specials in a game of Strip-Grue-Fire-Water. This was the end of Jack's lucky streak, and his debts just kept getting bigger and bigger. He ended up having to sell his casino to the Laughing Brogmoid Production House of Greater Foozle to cover them.
Jack disappeared from the limelight for 45 years, until the very same Laughing Brogmoid Production House of Greater Foozle picks him to star in the moving-picture version of the famous Legend of Zork. The screenwriter for the Laughing Brogmoud Production House decided to change the name of the popular legend to Great Underground Adventure and then that the movie would most likely sell better if some credibility had been established for it. Thus, Great Underground Adventure III was made, and Antharia Jack rocketed back to media stardom. Critics panned most of Great Underground Adventure III, but they all agreed that Jack provided a good performance. They also wondered why it appeared that he hadn't aged since 913 GUE. Despite these reviews, Great Underground Adventure III made over 20 million zorkmids on it's first weekend. The LBPH, riding the coat-tails of this success, decided to make a fourth in the series. Unfortunately, Great Underground Adventure IV ran overbudget, and they had to make a few cost decisions: They fired the GUA3 screenwriter and sold Jack's old casino to the Guild of Bakers. With this, they were able to complete production on what many critics and viewers alike consider to be a masterpiece of modern storytelling. Between GUA3 and GUA4, Jack somehow got framed for arson and sent to prison at the newly-aquired Asylum in Frostham. He escaped and managed to find the guy who did it. He cleared his name, and this only aided to make GUA4 more popular. The movie Jack was working on between the two of the Great Underground Adventure series was never released. The phenomenal success of Great Underground Adventure IV had driven Antharia Jack to win the prestigious Palm d'Grue award at the Foozle Film Festival. He used the cash prize to buy his former casino from the Guild of Bakers and refurnish it into a pawn shop. He ran that pawn shop from 1013 GUE (for it took that long for the deal to be finalized) to 1067 GUE, when a Frobozz Electric Perma-Suck Salesman framed him for arson and eventually set into motion the events that brought about the end of the Inquisition. During this, Jack reunited with the mysterious flat-headed woman, Lucy Flathead. They fell in love and, when the Grand Inquisitor was deposed, Lucy and Jack were crowned Queen and King of the Great Underground Empire. As of today, Jack is working to rebuild Flatheadia on a much more modest scale, while remaining the Port Foozle fire safety spokesman and starring in a movie version of the fall of the Inquisition. The Antharia Jack Show, was an hour-long variety program that ran in the afternoons from 8 Mumberbur to 15 Mumberbur 883 GUE. It's abrupt cancellation was due to an incedent that happened when Wurb Flathead, the former King of Quendor, broke a hole in the stage's ceiling and dropped through it into the show, interrupting the whole thing and scaring Antharia Jack away from television for 28 years. Coincedentally, his only other television show, The Z-Team, also didn't last very long. Antharia University, Ralph Waldo Flathead's alma mater, is known for an academic program specializing in obscure degrees such as Doctor of Idyllic Poetry, Doctor of Excellent Elegies, and Doctor of Octameter Odes. This University is possibly one of the elite Moss-League colleges, but our research team is not yet positive about this. Antharian cave witches live in dark holes high in the mountains of Antharia. These witches, usually very antisocial, can sometimes be summoned by coughing. Antharian Leap Week is a custom observed in Antharia only, that gives the month of Frobuary™ 35 days, instead of the normal 28. In Antharia, the month of Arch begins on the eighth day. The Aragain Brothers Circus employs a trainer of real, live grues. Obviously, this Circus is a big purchaser of Grue Protection Kits from the Frobozz Magic Grue Accessories Company. The Aragain Falls is the most breathtaking and awesome waterfall in the known lands. It lies at the end of the Frigid River, where it flows from its underground source near Flood Control Damn #3. The Falls were a favorite honeymoon spot during the 8th and 9th centuries, often called the Honeymoon Capital of the GUE. TheFalls are quite dangerous and, despite a warning buoy, many adventurers raft off the falls to their deaths. Aragain Village: Please see the entry on Flatheadia. Ardis was a member of the Guild of Poets in 966. He gave a speech to the Final Conclave of enchanters about the failure of magical rhyming and spelling aids. Atlantis is a small town in the Frobozz Province. There is absolutely nothing remarkable about it, except for the strange name.
