I have a little theory that a new website just raised that got me thinking a lot.
Supposedly, there is a storyline coming up involving Aeryn and Crais. Possibly a romantic
one? How could this happen? Crais has never been an ally until quite recently. He was
chasing the others for most of the first season. Suddenly, in DMD he seems totally in love with
Aeryn that he cries out in grief when she dies in the lake and works hard to avenge her death
when he chases Scorpius (so he thinks) in that Marauder in SOD. Why would he have such an
emotional response?
Consider this... Crichton may not have been the only one in the UT injected with someone
elses personality. Remember, it was Crais' plan to breed a Peacekeeper/Leviathan warship.
To do this, he needed a brilliant mind familiar with Leviathans. Enter Velorek. He was
determined to see that Crais did not succeed in his goal, as he thought the project was an
abomination. However, in the event Crais did succeed, perhaps Velorek had a fail-safe
device.
When Talyn was born and gave the "hand of friendship" to Crais as his ship's Captain, I
suspect the neural transponder that was stuck into Crais' neck contained the personality of
Velorek. With Velorek's consciousness in Crais' body, he could supervise Talyn's growth,
making sure he is not used for evil purposes. Remember how Crais used to be, he is now a
much more compassionate person (at least we are lead to believe that).
Crais seems to have become emotionally attached to Aeryn. Why so sudden? I believe
Velorek's control over Crais has asserted itself. In LG&M, PB he does not seem to desire
being around the others, including Aeryn, and turns down an opportunity to kill Scorpius (Crais
has the grudge against Scorpius, not Velorek, we don't even know if Velorek knows him)until
Aeryn offers herself in exchange for Crais' help to free Crichton. Does this awaken something
in Velorek's memories? Later in the episode, Crais returns to help. He says "lets just say I'm
here," possibly indicating he is not in total control, even if Talyn acts on his own. It would seem
Velorek has not forgotten his old flame.
In DMD, he offers Aeryn a chance to stay with him and Talyn. Earlier, he talks to Talyn and
discusses that if she joins them willingly, they will tell her the truth. What truth? Crais now
seems very attached to Aeryn, when in the previous episode, he was as distant from her as
the others (until her "offer" was made). When she dies, he is grief stricken. Why would he
respond that way unless a part of him had felt love for her before? When he chases after
Scorpius, he seems to be hellbent on avenging her death. Wouldn't Velorek, who despises
much of what the Peacekeepers stand for, be more likely to behave this way? After all, even
Crais would see the value in having wormhole technology to fight the Scarrans. His
motivations seemed to be spurred on by love more than anything else. I still say it is out of
character for Crais.
So is Velorek inhabiting the body of Crais? Was the information on the chip he wanted to
show Aeryn about her, or about Velorek? I thought it was an interesting theory. What does
Velorek think of John, if he is indeed in Crais' body? Was the reluctance by Crais to rescue
John born out of some jealousy or something else?
